National News: In a major turn of events in the Telangana BJP politics, Goshmahal MLA T. Raja Singh has submitted his resignation from the Bharatiya Janata Party. The decision reportedly came after the party's high command decided to appoint senior leader N Ramchander Rao as the new unit president. Raja Singh revealed in a video message that he had appealed to the party leadership to consider him for the post of unit president, considering the strong support he has from the grassroots workers. He claimed that the central leaders are favouring N Ramchander Rao, who is a senior advocate and former MLC. He also expressed his disappointment over being sidelined for the top post. Several party workers had urged him to take up the leadership and reinvigorate the party's Hindutva agenda in the state, he stated.
He would have launched a dedicated cow protection wing and ensured the party would have operated in Yogi Adityanath's style if he had been elected, he said, outlining his vision.
The post of state president should be given to someone who is committed to Hindutva ideals and not someone who is seeking VIP treatment, Singh said while asserting that he held no personal grudge against any leader. He also accused an internal group within the party of trying to block his rise within the organisation.
In the meantime, the BJP has confirmed Ramchander Rao's post as the state president after he emerged as the consensus candidate for the post. After the decision was conveyed by the party's central leadership, Rao is expected to file his nomination on Monday afternoon. The election is scheduled to happen on Tuesday, and it is expected that Rao will win unopposed.
Rao had previously held several key positions, including Hyderabad unit president and roles within the ABVP and the BJP’s legal cell, and has a long-standing association with the BJP. His clean and non-controversial image is believed to have favoured him. Reacting to Rao's appointment, Raj stated that presidents should be elected by party cadres and not through nominations. He also warned that such decisions in the past have harmed the party's performance in Telangana.
